Fed: Govt/Labor trade farm blows

Labor and the government have traded blows over which party is best placed to help
country Australia and its farmers.

Agriculture Minister WARREN TRUSS says Labor has no sympathy for those who work in
primary industries.

But opposition primary industries spokesman GAVAN O'CONNOR says Mr TRUSS is using personal
abuse to cover over his own lack of policy vision.

He says Labor has already announced a series of policies to help farmers, including
a fairer trading environment for dairy farmers and an agricultural industries council.

Regional Australia is set to play a major role in determining the winner of the October
the 9th poll, with a swag of marginal seats in rural areas.
